Your 4-day desert tour from Marrakech to Erg Chigaga will begin with pick-up from your Marrakech accommodation at 8:00 am. We will depart from Marrakech, ascending through the Atlas Mountains via the Tichka pass, the highest in Africa at 2260m, with splendid views. We will make several stops to enjoy the scenery and take photographs.
We will reach Ouarzazate, the gateway to the desert, for lunch before continuing to Zagora, crossing the Draa River, which has brought life to an immense oasis stretching for about 200 km at the foot of the mountains. Palm trees will provide shade amidst Kasbahs and fortified villages dotted with cornfields, barley, vegetables, and henna plantations. The first night of the 4-day desert tour to Chigaga from Marrakech ends in Zagora, where you will have dinner and stay in a Riad/hotel.
Breakfast will be served at the hotel in Zagora. Afterward, we head to M'hamid (where the asphalt road ends), passing through the village of Tamagroute, where we will have the opportunity to visit one of the oldest Quranic libraries in Morocco, and then the nearby Kasbah, famous for its pottery factory. Lunch will be served in M'hamid during free time. In the early afternoon, we will depart for the dunes of Erg Chigaga, crossing different elements of the desert: Ergs, Regs, Hammadas, and oases. The dunes of Erg Chigaga are remote from civilization, and the sand's silence is awe-inspiring.
During this 4-day desert tour from Marrakech, you will ride camels and experience one of the most spectacular sunsets over the ever-changing sand dunes. You will enjoy a splendid dinner under the stars next to the campfire while local nomads entertain you with traditional music. You will spend an unforgettable night in the Sahara Desert camp.
After having breakfast in Chegaga, the road takes us through another 90 km of desert with varied landscapes: we first cross the flat and dry salt lake of Iriqui and the Anti Atlas mountains, following the old "Paris Dakar Rally" track.
Next, we reach Foum Zguid, the first village after the desert, where the asphalt road begins. After lunch, we will continue to the Berber village of Taznakht, famous for its Berber carpets and rugs. We arrive in Ouarzazate in the late afternoon. Dinner and accommodation in a hotel in Ouarzazate.
After breakfast at the hotel, we will visit the famous film studios on Ouarzazate's outskirts, known as the Hollywood of Africa. Next, we will explore the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, a UNESCO World Heritage site previously used as a film set for over 20 Hollywood blockbusters. You can enjoy a walk to discover the traditional Moroccan architectural style in which the Kasbahs are built.
We will continue our journey to Marrakech through the High Atlas Mountains and the Tizi n'Tichka pass. Depending on the timing, lunch may be served at Ait Ben Haddou or in the Atlas Mountains along the way to Marrakech. Your 4x4 desert tour from Marrakech to Erg Chigaga will end around 5:00 PM, dropping you off at your hotel or a location of your choice.
