If you are on a trip to Morocco and only have a day to experience the landscapes and lifestyle of the Moroccan desert, a one-day excursion from Marrakech to the Agafay Desert will be your best choice. Meet your driver/guide at your hotel and drive southeast, passing through orange, olive, and peach farms until you reach the lunar-like arid hills of the Agafay Desert.
From here, you'll cross off the beaten track. As you move forward, you'll find yourself in the rocky scenario of the Agafay Desert. You'll traverse dry rivers, canyons, and oases. Drive next to Berber villages and watch the passing of sheep herds.
After a cup of mint tea, get ready for an hour-long camel ride followed by a delicious Moroccan lunch served under a nomadic tent. In the afternoon, you'll continue to Lake Lalla Takerkoust, located at the other end of the Agafay Desert. This lake serves as a water reservoir supplying drinking water to Marrakech.
